Blind Auction

Date: Sunday, February 17, 2019

Place: Dunedin Golf Club, Dunedin, FL

Sunday, February 17th, over fifty of the Island Estates Yacht Club members and guests brought their purses and pockets filled with an array of items to the Dunedin Golf Club.  The evening began with cocktails at 5pm followed by Commodore Scott Moncrieff leading the pledge of allegiance and the invocation.  A delicious buffet dinner was served at 5:45.  It included roast sirloin with mushroom sauce, salmon with citrus glaze, and chicken parmesan with penne pasta and was complemented by sides of roasted red-skinned potatoes and seasonal fresh vegetable medly. Decadent chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream was the perfect ending to this perfect meal.

As dinner was winding down, members were gearing up looking through their bags in search for items being called out in exchange for IEYC cash.  Items like dental floss, a sewing needle, and a magnifying glass brought big bucks to members who had them.  Joan Landreth brought the kitchen sink in her bag.  She had to dump it out on the floor just to find her items.  Laughter filled the room when the traditional  "200 bucks for anyone wearing red underware" was won by John Speck as he showed his to the group.  Cash was flying as committee members Sharon Foster, Mary Reinhart, Arnie Shal, Mary Lou Spoto, Sherl Iarrobino, and Chuck and Diane Stebbins courageously awarded the cash for the members' goods.

Money was tallied in preparation for bidding.  Vice Commodore Gene Traupman was the host and auctioneer. He was accompanied by Paul Lightfoot who gave detailed descriptions of each of the gifts.  Although regifting and exchanging of gifts was noticed, everyone went home with the gift of fun-fulled memories and a belly full of great food.

Gene would like to thank the committee members for their support and sense of humor.  He and the entire IEYC would especially like to thank Chuck of the Dunedin Golf Club.  He was responsible for the beautiful room, courteous and accomodating staff, the funny bar tender, and the excellent food! You guys ROCK!
