Threshers Baseball Game

Date: Saturday, July 23, 2022

Place: BayCare Ballpark

Clearwater, FL

A great turnout and tons of fun was had on Saturday July 23rd, 2022 as the Island Estates Yacht Club (IEYC) invaded the BayCare Ballpark and watched the Bradenton Marauders take on the Clearwater Threshers. Thanks to the weather, the first pitch was unfortunately delayed by several hours, which had no effect on the attendees of the event.

Bunni & Scott Lefebvre were our hosts for the evening. In attendance were fifteen members and five guests. Scott met everyone and distributed tickets at the Ballpark’s Diamond Club & Suite entrance. Upon entering the Thresher’s Club, Bunni greeted everyone and handed out goodie boxes. A full buffet of hotdogs, meatballs, chicken tenders, macaroni & cheese and salad was available along with a refrigerator stocked with water and sodas and an iced trough of beer.

As luck would have it, IEYC was in the climate-controlled Thresher’s Club as the rain began to fall. The grounds crew rolled out the covering for the baseball diamond as club members continued to catch up. Everyone in attendance picked four squares on a board which was then numbered so drawings could be conducted during the 3rd, 6th, and 9th innings. As the rains continued to fall, the second annual coloring contest was in full swing.

With the thunder, lightning and heavy rains showing no signs of letting up, the hosts made the decision to move forward with the square game, drawing numbers for the “3rd inning” score with guest and future member Walter Kittle winning, the “6th inning” score with member Marie Ross winning, and the “9th inning” score with member Mary Reinhart winning.  Additionally, guest and future member Marty Owen won the coloring contest.

The clouds parted, the baseball game began at approximately 9:30 p.m., and members were able to enjoy a great game that was won by the Marauders with a final score of seven to three.

A big thank you to all the Butterflies and other committee members that helped make this a success. An additional thank you to Mary Reinhardt for doing an amazing job taking care of the reservations and name tags.
