High Tea at Low Table in the Afternoon

Date: Saturday, August 27, 2022

Place: Dunedin Golf Club

Dunedin, FL

On Saturday August 27, 2022, several men of the Island Estates Yacht Club hosted “High Tea at a Low Table in the Afternoon” at the Dunedin Golf Club.  Upon arrival, guests were greeted by Arnie Shal and Harry Bickford. Twenty-five members and three guests attended the event.

A private seating area and bar with hors d'oeuvres of cucumber slices, cream cheese, and smoked salmon and also phyllo cups with cream cheese, jelly, and fresh raspberries were available during the social hour preceding the Scottish inspired three course chef-prepared meal.

Meal service began with the members and guests being served an entrée consisting of a crudité of fresh vegetables and creamy mushroom soup. This was followed by the main course of cod two ways and fries (fish & chips), two handmade Scottish beef pies with a whiskey caramel glaze, and rumbledethumps (a traditional dish from the Scottish Borders. The main ingredients are potato, cabbage and onion).  The meal concluded with the desert service of a take on the uncontested king of Scottish deserts, the raspberry cranachan (cream and fresh seasonal raspberries bolstered by Scottish oats and whisky) and Millionaire’s Shortbreads.

Upon arrival, everyone was provided with their raffle tickets which also included various Scottish facts. Jim Ostrosky ran the door-prize drawing with Barbara Thompson drawing Sara Spec’s number for a gift card to the Wild Iris Café in Dunedin. Don Prokes drew Mary Reinhardt’s number for a gift card to the Clear Sky group and Robyn Bleier drew her own number for the gift certificate for two to the club’s September event, An Evening of Sauces & Serenades which will be held at the Bellaire Country Club on Wednesday September 14, 2022.
