Oktoberfest

Date: Saturday, October 15, 2022

Place: Dunedin Golf Club

Dunedin, FL

A fun time was had at Dunedin Golf Club during the evening of Saturday, October 15, for Island Estates Yacht Club’s Oktoberfest.  The event was well attended with twenty-seven members and nine guests.

DGC’s General Manager Chuck Croasmun and his staff provided excellent German-inspired appetizers – German meatballs and German cheese board – and buffet including schweinebraten, chicken schnitzel, bratwurst, sauerkraut, and spätzle.  The meal was topped off with Black Forest cherry cake.

After the meal a short quiz about Oktoberfest was held to determine which tables would participate in a friendly game of Family Feud with Gene Traupman as the emcee and Angie as the board operator, with help from her sister, Cindy Weeks.  Team Paulaner – Linda & John Garrity; Sue, John, and Sara Speck; Marcia Coxhead; and Marilyn & Wayne Huneke took on Team Hofbrau – Bunni & Scott Lefebvre; Diane Stebbins; and Mary Reinhardt & Arnie Shal.  Team Paulaner came out on top winning the special grand prize of “buy two-get two fish fry” certificates courtesy of DSG.  A big thank you goes out to all those who participated.

Once again, Angie Traupman outdid herself with the decorations and favors.  Each table was adorned with a vase containing fresh flowers, including a traditional sunflower, on a doily cut out of Oktoberfest blue paper.  Foil balloons with each table's team name was tethered to each vase.  She even created napkin holders with Oktoberfest-inspired ribbon and a sunflower.  Oktoberfest banners were placed on the walls behind the buffet and the bar.  The front of the registration table had a banner made specifically for the IEYC Oktoberfest event.  And last, but not least, each member and guest went home with a glass beer stein etched with IEYC Oktoberfest 2022

Many thanks to Angie for all the work she put into for setting the scene for us.  And a special thanks to Cindy Weeks for helping Angie place all the decorations earlier in the day.

I’d also like to thank Mary Reinhardt for providing the name tags and tent cards, and taking registration; and Dianne Stebbins and Mary Lou Spoto for greeting members as they arrived and handing out name tags.  Last, but not least, no event can be documented properly without pictures.  Thanks to Scott Lefebvre and Mary for taking the photos.
