2023 IEYC Dinner Theater "Same Time Next Year"
Twenty-four members and five guests of the IEYC returned to Ed Fletcher’s Early Bird Dinner Theater on Saturday July 15th to enjoy “Same Time Next Year.” Jan Nagy and Commodore Scott Lefebvre greeted everyone at the door while Irene Seiter, Ginger Newman, and Bunni Lefebvre greeted the members at the theater room. Don Prokes continued his Boatswain role and adorned the tables with sailboats from the IEYC Regatta.
Members and guests marked their seats then made their choice of one of many deserts and hit the salad bar. After salad service Commodore Lefebvre personally thanked Carolyn and Gary Bookout for bringing guests Greg and Lisa Simmons, Past Commodore Vivian (2016) and Tom Smith for bringing guests Steve and Kristin Vincelli, and Glenda Creasy for bringing guest Elisa McCarty. Commodore Lefebvre also thanked Jan Nagy, Irene Seiter and Ginger Newman for helping with the event. Each member was given a handwritten thank you note from the Commodore and a ribbon to be hung on the IEYC Flag. A raffle drawing was held where Carolyn Bookout drew Sue Moncreiff’s number from the bag and Sue won an embroidered IEYC baseball cap.
After the drawing, members and guests were enticed by the buffet featuring mashed potatoes, rice, meatballs in marinara sauce, chicken Marsala, salmon almandine, steamed vegetables, and a carving station featuring Tennessee baked ham and Steamship Round of roast beef.
With club business and dinner complete, the show began. Set in 1951 and concluding in 1977, not only did we follow George and Doris through the decades, but we were also reminded of cultural and political events that ensued in the years between each of the six scenes through a series of photos that were shown as the scenes were reset. This sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and at times a bit risqué play kept everyone’s attention and provided a lot to talk about after the show.
