2023 IEYC Sauces and Serenades

The IEYC enjoyed an evening of friendship and fellowship at the Belleair Country Club during the evening of Wednesday, September 13. A Taste of Italy: Sauces and Serenades was hosted by member Ginny Heath. The event was very well attended with thirty-eight (38) members and four (4) guests.

Past Commodore Scott and Sue Moncrieff joined hostess Ginny Heath in greeting members and guests when they arrived. The evening included a private room overlooking the golf course and croquet courts. After the Pledge of Allegiance, Commodore Lefebvre recognized the evening’s hostess, Ginny Heath and the members who brought guests. Member Jan Nagy brought guest Rosemary Murray, members Harry and Carol Bickford brought guest Mary Holtz, and members Scott and Bunni Lefebvre brought guests Marty and Kathi Peters. Commodore Lefebvre reminded members of the annual Blind Auction event that is being hosted by Scott and Sue Moncrieff on Sunday, October 15th at the Dunedin Golf Club, the IEYC Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet also being held at the Dunedin Golf Club on November 5th, and the IEYC Change of Watch being held at the Belleair Country Club on Friday, December 1st.

Commodore Lefebvre then made an emotional remembrance of past-Commodore Scott Sanders.

“Eight Bells.  Eight Bells. Although the ringing of eight bells signifies the time of day—just like on a grandfather clock—it also signifies the end of a watch. When a fellow sailor passes, Eight Bells is rung to signify their passing, the end of their watch with us. Last month, former member and 2013 Commodore Scott Sanders passed. I never had the opportunity to get to know Scott and his wife and 2018 Commodore Jean, but I know many of you knew them very well. Please take a moment to remember Scott, while we ring eight bells for him.”

Fleet Captain John Speck then rang eight bells:

Ding, ding

Ding, ding

Ding, ding

Ding, ding

After the invocation, the members and guests enjoyed a beautiful view, an all-you-care-to-eat antipasti bar, cook-to-order pasta station, and dessert table.

From the beginning of the event, members and guests mingled and strolled among the tables and throughout the room and club. The conversations, wonderful music, and great food made this evening one to remember.

A special thank you to the lead Butterfly, Bunni Lefebvre, for providing support to the hostesses as needed along with handling the registration and to Mary Reinhardt for providing the name tags and tent cards.
